You may use any other online or printed resource material that you find applicable.

Task:

Choose an award winning production, or director.

Using information from your research about the winners  and the production(s)  you selected, write a 3 page paper  on one award-winning piece/individual of your choice.

Remember to cite your sources in accordance with MLA guidelines (must include a works cited page, and appropriate parenthetical citations.)

Consider these aspects as you make your choice:

What time period was the production about?

What were the conditions at the time?  How did this impact the piece?     (Ex:  Was it wartime or peacetime?   Was it produced as the subject matter was occurring, or after the fact?)

What special qualities did the production/feature have that, in your opinion, resulted in it receiving the Peabody?

Did the producer/creator have any special credentials?  What had he/she accomplished prior to receiving the Peabody?

Due Date:  See work for the week!

 * Due to the obvious significance of deadlines to a Journalism class, late submissions will not be accepted.   Please be sure to plan accordingly.

NOTES:

The George Foster Peabody Awards were first awarded in 1941 for radio programs broadcast in 1940.

The awards recognize distinguished achievement and meritorious service by radio and television networks, stations, producing organizations, cable television organizations and individuals.

They perpetuate the memory of the banker-philanthropist whose name they bear.

The awards program is administered by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.

Selection is made by the Peabody Board following review by special screening committees of faculty, students and staff.
